POSITION PURPOSE:
Assistant Manager must comply with School Nutrition Assistant job description in addition to the criteria listed below. They must assist the manager as needed in the daily operation of the cafeteria. The assistant manager will fill in as manager in their absence.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Considerable knowledge of food preparation and standards of sanitation and safety
- Working knowledge of basic arithmetic
- Skill in the use of food preparation equipment
- Ability to comprehend and apply written and verbal guidelines and directions, and explain these to others
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in commercial or institutional food service, preferably in a school setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- School Nutrition experience
- Management experience
- Able to obtain a North Carolina Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with school bus certification and P&S endorsements
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee kitchen operation and perform daily duties when manager is handling office work (Asst. managers will be guided by manager’s instructions)
- Assistant managers will be a part of the rotating work schedule followed by other CN employees.
- Will rotate with manager at least once a month to do weekly market orders
- Will be responsible for completing monthly inventory twice yearly
- Will be responsible for completing monthly payroll twice yearly
- Will count money & complete daily deposit procedures once weekly
- Work with manager on production records as often as possible (must be knowledgeable about these records)
- Read and review the CN Managerial Procedures Manual to become familiar with all CN guidelines
- Will communicate with the manager any personnel strengths/weaknesses observed
- The assistant manager may be responsible for dealing with minor personnel issues in the cafeteria, however all major issues must be directed to the manager

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
|
Work is considered moderate to heavy physical work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force. Must be able to withstand heat and standing for long periods of time. Some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling can be involved.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
|
Employees in this position are required to work in indoor and outdoor environments, and come into direct contact with RCSS staff, students and the public.
